Prevent the pollution of your tank water
The First Flush water Diverter made by Rain Harvesting is a simple but very effective tool to help you store clean rain water.
Water caught from any roof will have a variety of contaminants mixed with it including animal droppings, bacteria from decomposed insects or animals, sediments and other air and water borne pollutants. This of course you do not want to store in your water tanks. So to prevent this from entering your water tank, a Rain Harvesting First Flush Diverter is the best product to use.
How does the First Flush Diverter work?

When it first rains, water slowly builds up on the roof and in the roof guttering system. This then washes contaminants along the guttering before it exits through the downpipe. As the contaminated water flows through the downpipe it gets diverted into the flushing chamber. This chamber fills up with water, and as the level rises a floating ball rises with it, eventually closing the chamber.
This then diverts the cleaner water to the water tanks. This system allows for the flushing of contaminants off the roof and guttering by diverting the dirtiest water. In doing so it will reduce water tank maintenance and protect any attached water pumps.
By using a floating ball and seat, this system prevents the contaminated water from being suctioned out of the chamber and into the water tank.

The amount of contaminated water that is flushed can be adjusted by varying the length of the PVC chamber. This can be set when the First Flush is installed. The First Flush will reset automatically by slowly draining itself after rain. It can do so by using an inbuilt slow release valve. The amount of self draining can be adjusted by changing the slow release valve with one of the many supplied.

The chamber has a screw cap which can be removed for regular maintenance. This cap houses the slow release valve and a plastic filter. The filter is there to prevent any large particles from clogging the slow release valve.
The Rain Harvesting First Flush Diverter is very simple in design, but efficient in operation.
