DIY Water Tank Stand
The first thing you need to do is measure the water tank that you will be placing on the tank stand. Then allow a few cm’s on either side, for the top of the stand.
Get yourself some sturdy wood from your local hardware store. For this project I used 5cm thick treated pine planks, as it is going to be outside, and treated pine doesn’t have to be painted.
Word of warning, treated pine is treated with arsenic. When cutting, please use goggles and an appropriate face mask. You don’t want to be breathing in the saw dust! The wood planks I purchased, all had warning tags stapled to them informing of the required safety precautions.
For this project my stand needed to be a certain height. Using a circular saw I cut two pieces of wood of equal lengths to be the stand legs.
I positioned the stand legs apart from each other, and then placed the stand top above the legs. I Marked the position of the screw holes using a square, and then drilled the holes and countersunk them slightly. I then placed the fixing screws into the wood and tightened. Make sure they are flush with the wood.
Then measure the gap between the 2 stand legs, and cut another piece of wood to fit. Once cut, position the wood in between the legs. You might need to use a mallet or hammer and tap it into place if it is a bit tight. Then measure and mark 2 points on each side, and then drill them out, also countersink them so you can then have the screws flush with the wood when in place. Once you have screwed the sides in, your stand is complete. If you have used different wood then you might need to paint it to protect it.
It is a simple, quick and strong water tank stand. It is currently holding a 220Kg water tank (when full). But it should be able to handle a lot more.
